SKILL PROGRAMME
The activities are community based and offer a wide range of
recreational and leisure opportunities. Individualised
programmes are established for all participants which reflect
the agreed goals and interests of the person. Our programmes are
generally located in the heart of the community, but we also
have dedicated Marae and farm-based programmes.
Our staff have considerable experience working with people with
disabilities; especially those with high support needs.
Specialist staff employed by Gracelands also provide additional
skills and resources. These include Occupational Therapists,
Activity Facilitators and Service Advisors.
Within the Skill programme we aim:
To create opportunities for participants to interact within
the community
To focus on enhancing people's quality of life and
experiences.
To increase participants skill base and independence
To have fun and foster friendships
Activities include:
Support in work or work experience
Swimming
Cultural activities
Community awareness
Farming and horticulture experiences
Developing personal care skills
Arts/craft and creative dance
Gym and exercise programmes or group sports
Links with community groups and associations
